AKAMAI TECHNOLOGIES LACKS the name recognition of Google and Amazon, but the company is probably just as relevant to your online experience. Akamai (ticker: AKAM), which has 48,000 servers positioned around the world and handles up to 20% of all Internet traffic, acts as a lubricant of sorts, keeping online activity moving smoothly. It’s a critical offering for content providers, online retailers and other businesses that count on reliable, fast delivery of Internet data. “This is a society where speed kills,” says Standard and Poor’s analyst Scott Kessler.[Read more...]
